Line of the Day: Gerald Laird

Have I mentioned that I fucking hate fantasy baseball? Yesterday, I cut Gerald Laird from my Bloggers League to pick up Jason Kendall. Today, this happens ...

Gerald Laird: 4-for-5, 2 HR, 3 runs, 6 RBI

I swear this game will shave years off your life. (If you play fantasy football too, you're probably losing a whole decade.)

Kendall?

Less charitable people than myself might have said there was karma at work here ;-)

...I am speechless.

"If Jason Kendall is drafted in any format other than an NL Central-only league, someone needs to be mercilessly mocked. Kendall is a thief. $60 million for the last six years? I think he hit 10 home runs, combined, over that stretch."

Make no mistake: Jason Kendall sucks. Also, make no mistake: My second catcher slot was dealt a serious blow when Salty Macchio was sent back down to the minors. Laird was who I picked up to fill the hole (even though I had no faith in him), and he started the season 1-for-11. Now, what happens to me if and when Salty gets called back up and I don't get him? I'll tell you -- I'm fucked. Kendall's actually been hitting pretty well, so a change seemed reasonable ...

By the way, this is a 12-team, two-catcher league ... meaning 24 catchers have to start. Kendall is currently the #3-ranked catcher in Yahoo. Uh, yeah, he should probably be on somebody's team right now ... at least until he inevitably starts sucking again. By the way, my other catcher -- Ryan Doumit -- is the #4-ranked catcher in Yahoo right now.

More on my Bloggers League team, and the horrors of its week-one output, coming later today ...

Thank you Steve, as I didn't have the heart to go pull up my quote on Kendall from our pre-season draft guides.

Sorry Bob - a little bit of a cheap shot ;-) I do feel some of your pain, though. I am, after all, the man, who had Kelly Johnson on the bench when he hit a grand slam the other day...
