So in a 16 team mixed league with a deep bench which just drafted, I hoarded 4 closers. No one else in the league has more than two. Unfortunately, I stepped away and the computer selected Soriano as my second pick. So now I'm being offered Alex Rios for my Sherill and Dan Wheeler. My current OF is Pence Damon, Thames, Schumaker with subs Nady and Cuddyer. Worth taking a chance on Rios?
I would. But only because you have no need for four closers. What I really want to know, though, is what was so important that it dragged you away from your computer long enough to fuck up your second pick?!
Well, actually it was my first three picks. I actually had to take my mother-in-law to the ER because she broke her arm and there was nobody else who could do it. So, instead of having the day to prep for a weird draft, I spent the day next to insane, vomiting people. We I took her back home, I had 5 minutes to "create my own rankings" on Yahoo, which consisted of attempting to remove everybody who was long-term DL from my rankings, including Soriano. I raced home, to see that I had the fourth pick (the computer left Reyes on the board and selected David Wright), Soriano, and Brian Roberts. I had 20 seconds to go, and with about the 55th pick, I took Hunter Pence. From there, I decided if I hoarded relief pitchers, I might be able to pick up someone useful. And it's worked in a sense, I'm getting someone who was drafted about 45 for someone who was drafted 120. Of course, it's sucky Alex Rios. So that's my stupid story.
I guess I didn't finish my DL removal project in the five alloted minutes, although I still don't know why the computer picked Soriano.
That story might be sucky, but oh so worth it for the phrase: "insane, vomiting people."
