Line of the Day: Dustin Pedroia

Pedroia has at least one hit in every game he's started this month but three. In July, he also only started three games where he didn't secure a hit. His .843 OPS is nothing to sneeze at, either. I think I'm making Pedroia my second baseman in at least one league next year. Consider that my first pledge for 2009.

Dustin Pedroia: 3-for-5, 3 runs, 1 HR, 4 RBI

I just looked at the ESPN Player rater --- he's 29th. Crazy. What round do you think he'll go next year? Where would you target him? Keeper potential?

@ Red:

Wow, both good questions I haven't begun to think about yet. But I will say this: My guess is he'll go lower than he should next year. In the Yahoo game, he ranks higher than "name" second basemen like Brandon Phillips and Brian Roberts, and I could still see those guys being picked in front of him in 2009.

At this early stage, I'm thinking that, if he's there in the fifth round of a 12-teamer next year, take him and feel great about your pick. If you specifically target him, he's probably worth a late fourth-round pick.

As for keeping him -- depends on your roster, of course. And consider that Pedroia may be a guy you could re-draft and get great value from.
