A Steady Stream

Here are some stream-worthy pitchers owned in less than 50% of ESPN leagues that are scheduled to pitch on Friday, September 5th. Stream at your own risk.
  • Bronson Arroyo (29.2% owned) @ home versus the Cubs. Normally I would shy away from streaming against the Cubs but Arroyo has been on fire lately. He was 4-2 with a 2.61 ERA in August with quality starts in five of six starts. His 4.03 ERA at home this season says he pitches pretty well in a hitters park. Over the last 15 days, Arroyo is 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and three quality starts. Lastly, his career ERA against the Cubs is 3.29.
  • Andy Sonnanstine (20.8%) @ TOR versus Roy Halladay. Not a lot of good things to say about Andy other than he has found a way to go 13-6 this season despite a 4.61 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP. The risk factor on streaming him seems very high.
  • Kevin Millwood (6.9%) @ home versus Boston. Streaming against the Red Sox is very risky too but I like what Kevin's numbers are saying to me. He's 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and three quality starts over his last 24.2 IP. I really like his 13/1 KBB ratio during that span. Just remember, he will always be Kevin Millwood and Texas is ranked the 6th best hitters park for 2008.
  • Dallas Braden (0.4%) @ BAL. I looked at the bottom of the barrel and found this possible gem. Braden is only 2-1 over his last 32.2 IP but has thrown four quality starts. A 2.76 ERA and 1.19 WHIP are really the numbers that get my attention.
I look forward to revisiting these pitching performances and welcome any feedback regarding this column and its usefulness.

Tread lightly through the murky waters of streaming pitchers.

Anthony Reyes?

Anthony Reyes (5.3%) @ KC. I skipped over Reyes because I didn't think his body of work with CLE was enough to stream him. Looking at his numbers now let's me know I need to stream him somewhere for tomorrow's game. In his last 31.1 IP, here's his line: 2-1 w/ 4 QS, 2.01 ERA, 1.31 WHIP. His .321 OBA and 14/11 KBB ratio are slight causes for concern but luckily he is facing KC. I'll be sure to track his outcome.
Thanks

Jays will beat TB, and Millwood will get lit up. Other than that, kudos

Streamer follow-up:
* Arroyo's 6.1IP 4H 1ER 2BB 6K W QS line wound up being a really nice stream. He may be worth leaving on your roster at this point if you're still in a playoff hunt.
* Sonnanstine wasn't terrible (6IP 5H 4ER 1BB 3K L) but you gotta do better than that when facing Halladay.
* Millwood proved he will always be Kevin Millwood and streaming him will always be high risk, especially against Boston (6IP 9H 6ER 1BB 4K). Ugh!
* Dallas Braden chipped in 5IP 4H 1ER 1BB 3K and a win in what can only be described as an effective streaming performance.
* Anthony Reyes was forced to leave his start after three innings with an elbow injury. His three shutout innings are duly noted.
